Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said (September 4, 2022) that her government is developing a modern transport system by implementing various projects to accelerate the country’s economic growth.

“We are developing a modern transportation system,” she said as she opened the 1,493-meter-long “Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib Eighth Bridge of Bangladesh-China Friendship” on the Kacha River in Bekutia, Pirojpur, Khulna Division and Barisal Division there is an uninterrupted road connection between the Divisions.

She said her government has increased the total length of highways across the country to 22,000 kilometers, of which 718 kilometers have been upgraded to four lanes or more, and is working to convert more than 600 kilometers of highways to four lanes or more.

Hasina said that the government is now implementing various projects including Dhaka Metro and Elevated Expressway project, 20 km BRT (project) from Gazpur to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Bangabandhu Tunnel and 10-lane Tonji Bridge.

I think our economy will get more momentum once these projects are completed,” she said.
