Dhaka into a modern city by 2020
Dhaka the capital of Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated mega cities of the world. It is over burdened with the population of almost two cores. Dhaka is struggling to balance demand and supply of amenities for its dwellers. Any development plan will fail, if population of this city is not down-sized to an acceptable level.
Following steps are imperative for the proper implementation of any development planning for Dhaka city-
Readymade Garment (RGMs) industries of Dhaka city have to be shifted outside from Dhaka.
Seven divisions have to be made self-sufficient so that inhabitants of those divisions need not to march Dhaka.
Ensuring population control of Dhaka city, we can go for the following modernization planning’s-
First priority should be communization development expressway, subway or sky-rail whichever is viable.
If communization is improved significantly, people will shift themselves from Dhaka to the nearby suburbs like Gajipur, Narayngonj, Manikgonj, Norshigdi. Then it will be easier to ensure civil rights for the dwellers of Dhaka city. Proper linkage with those suburbs has to be ensured first.
Dhaka City Corporation has to be reformed so that it can present us a clean Dhaka.
Various government bodies have to be reformed to provide utility services like water, gas, electricity efficiently and effectively.
RAJUK has to be restructured so that it can work with private sector for proper real estate development. A mega projects for building high rise buildings can be implemented through public private partnership (PPP) .
For smooth flow of traffic more flyovers’ can be built. Two storied or three storied flyovers can also be under consideration.
