Mega Projects of Bangladesh
The government of Bangladesh has given to priority to ten fast-track mega projects. They are as below:
- Padma Multipurpose Bridge
- Padma Rail Link
- Dohazari-Ramu-Cox’s Bazar & Ramu-Gundum Rail Line
- Metro Rail
- Paira Deep Sea Port
- Sonadia Deep Sea port
- Ruppur NPP
- Matarbari Coal Power
- Rampal Power Project
- LNG Terminal

Metro Rail
Metro Rail project is also a mega project of Bangladesh. The government of Bangladesh signed a contract with Japanese Tokyu construction company to develop the metro rail project costing TK. 21,985 crore. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide TK. 16,594 crore for the project. This 20 km metro rail route, named Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 will be constructed from Uttara North (Phase iii_ to Bangladesh Bank and will have 16 stops.
The work on the first part of the project from Uttara North to Agargaon will begin from November 2016 aiming to be completed by December 2019. The work on the second part of the project from Agargaon to Motijheel would also start on 2017, it would be completed by December 2020.
The metro rail will have noise barriers and vibration free tracks and thus be environment friendly. Once completed, the project would carry 60,000 passengers per hour and bring great relief to the city’s notorious traffic congestion and delays.
