After missing the September 1 deadline, the Bus Routes Rationalization Commission has set a new deadline to introduce 200 new buses on two routes from October 13, 2022 and the other from November 30. Introduce 200 new buses.
The new two routes are from Ghatarchar to Demra Staff Quarter via Basila, Mohammadpur, Farmgate, Kawranbazar, Shahbagh, Motijheel, Sayedabad and another route from Ghatarchar to Postogola Kadamtoli via Basila, Mohammadpur, Asadgate, Shukrabad, Kolabagan, Science Lab, New Market, Azimpur.
Another route – Ghatarchar to Chittagong Road via Mohammadpur, College Gate, Science Lab, Shahbagh, Press Club, Gulistan, Dainik Bangla, Razarbag, Kamalapur and Dhalpur will head to Nagar Paribahan on November 30.
Dhaka Southern City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh disclosed this information after the 24th meeting of the Bus Route Rationalization Committee at Nagar Bhaban.
“We will introduce Nagar Paribahan on these three routes with 200 new buses. It will take very little time as these routes will start with brand new comfortable buses,” said Md Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation.
The government introduced Nagar Paribahan on the route from Ghatarchar-Kanchpur earlier on December 26, 2021 as part of the government’s initiative to rationalize bus routes.
“From September 25 to 29, we will carry out a clean-up operation against illegal buses to restore order to the city’s roads,” said the mayor of DSCC.
Taposh said that as of last month, they have managed to provide the facility to more than 2.4 million people, for which BRTC and associated owners can earn Tk 360,000 from the bus service. He said it showed they were on the right track.
Taposh said they have almost completed the necessary infrastructure on the three routes. Only three passenger shelters need to be completed – two near the subway Shahbagh junction and one near the Secretariat.
