Padma Rail Link: Mega Project Bangladesh
Mega projects are very large investment projects. The US federal Highway Administration defines maga projects as major infrastructure projects that cost more than US$1 billion, or projects of a significant cost that attract a high level of public attention or political interest because of substantial direct and indirect impact on the community, environment and budgets. Mega also implies the size of the task involved in developing, planning and managing projects of this magnitude.
Padma Rail Link is the most important project of Bangladesh. Under the project, a 169km rail track will be built between Dhaka and Jessore. It is TK. 34,988 crore project. Of the funds, the government will provide TK. 10,239 crore and China TK. 24,749 crore.
Once implemented, the padma bridge and the padma rail link project would boost the county’s economic growth by 1.5-1.75 percentage points.
